CAIBA’s Product Innovation Laboratory is currently working on the following projects:

CAIBA reinvents the PET container

• The development of a pioneering international project in conjunction with AINIA (the Agri-Food Technology Institute of the Valencian Community) to increase the barrier effect of PET containers by incorporating an innovative material: nanoclays. The aim is to improve the container’s properties to prevent oxygen from entering and carbon dioxide from leaving it, thus increasing the useful life of the product on supermarket shelving and dispensing with more costly multi-layered solutions.

CARBONFOOTPACK

• The development of a new environmental project which was set up by ITENE, the Packaging, Transport and Logistics Technology Institute of the Valencian Community. Known as CARBONFOOTPACK, the project will allow companies to ascertain the parameters that have the greatest impact on the environment in terms of the emission of greenhouse gases, based on calculating and hence minimizing their carbon footprint and contributing to protecting and improving the environment.

ALTERNATIVES TO PET

• CAIBA devotes an important part of its research efforts to manufacturing containers from materials other than PET, with biodegradable properties that allow significant savings in the consumption of crude oil derivatives.
